Mango might still be fresh in their minds, but Microsoft are looking to the future with the promise that Windows Phone will support both dual-core processors as well as LTE. The news came from Andy Lees, the head honcho of Windows Phone, in an interview with AllThingsD. Lees talked about that progress an where Mango had/was taking the platform:
We're not making specific predictions but I think that our momentum is going to build. Our first [release] was about mindshare, and really getting the credibility, and I think [Mango] is really about starting to build unit volume and market share.
That sounds like a fair assessment although one might argue about the effectiveness of Mango in actually achieving those objectives. As for moving past Mango the support for LTE will come when its ready to come basically. Microsoft wants to make sure LTE networks are properly established and don't contribute too much to battery drain before supporting them.

The iPhone 4S is shaping up to be the most successful iPhone ever with a record breaking number of pre-orders. The iPhone 4 managed to notch up 600,000 pre-orders within 24 hours when it was announced last year. The iPhone 4S has almost doubled that with more than a million pre-orders within the first day. For some that won't be surprising of course, but given the lukewarm reception the handset received when first unveiled it might be news to some. Apple's marketshare and profits should be getting a healthy boost when next we see the figures.
