Millions Without BlackBerry Service, T-Mobile States The Obvious    [ 10-10-2011 17:40 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: Telegraph     Translation by:    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

The Telegraph is reporting that Blackberry users in Africa, the Middle East and Europe have been experiencing aloss of service since 11am Monday. The problem was apparently caused by a bug on the servers in Slough, UK. It's certainly a nasty bug as it's affected users across all networks and devices. For their part RIM hasn't issued a statement, leaving that to its network partners. T-Mobile UK, for example, had this to say "There is an issue with BlackBerry services at present". If you can manage to digest that detailed series of information you might be ready for T-Mobile's next update, via Twitter, which said "RIM investigating this at present". Things were even worse in Bahrain where BlackBerry service was out for the entire country as confirmed by Batelco, but they said that RIM was dealing with the issue from Canada.

Windows Phone To Support Dual-Core & LTE    [ 10-10-2011 17:35 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: AllThingsD     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Mango might still be fresh in their minds, but Microsoft are looking to the future with the promise that Windows Phone will support both dual-core processors as well as LTE. The news came from Andy Lees, the head honcho of Windows Phone, in an interview with AllThingsD. Lees talked about that progress an where Mango had/was taking the platform:

We're not making specific predictions but I think that our momentum is going to build. Our first [release] was about mindshare, and really getting the credibility, and I think [Mango] is really about starting to build unit volume and market share.

That sounds like a fair assessment although one might argue about the effectiveness of Mango in actually achieving those objectives. As for moving past Mango the support for LTE will come when its ready to come basically. Microsoft wants to make sure LTE networks are properly established and don't contribute too much to battery drain before supporting them.

iPhone 4S Tops A Million Pre-Orders In 24 Hours    [ 10-10-2011 17:33 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: Apple     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

The iPhone 4S is shaping up to be the most successful iPhone ever with a record breaking number of pre-orders. The iPhone 4 managed to notch up 600,000 pre-orders within 24 hours when it was announced last year. The iPhone 4S has almost doubled that with more than a million pre-orders within the first day. For some that won't be surprising of course, but given the lukewarm reception the handset received when first unveiled it might be news to some. Apple's marketshare and profits should be getting a healthy boost when next we see the figures.
