Another Galaxy S III Leak To Whet Your Appetite    [ 27-04-2012 15:10 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Phone Arena     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Another day, another leaked image of the Galaxy S III. The image shows a handset very similar in appearance to the existing Galaxy S II although that probably shouldn't be too surrising at this stage. The Galaxy S II was mega-popular so I guess Samsung probably feel they don't want to rock the boat too much.

Video: Google Adds Photo Tours To Google Maps    [ 27-04-2012 14:59 ]

Author: Ivanov Konstantin   Source: Google     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Google updates its Google Maps service fairly regularly and the latest update brings with it Photo Tours. These are 3D photo scenes of various popular landmarks and scenes from around the world. The photo tours are created from stitching together user contributed pictures. You can gain access to the new feature in one of two ways as Google's's blog on the subject explains:

First, when you search for a place, such as Trevi Fountain, the results in the left panel will indicate if there is a photo tour available: click either the thumbnail image or the link to start the tour. Alternatively, if you're browsing the map and click on the label for a particular landmark, the info window will indicate if a photo tour is available.

Samsung Overtakes Nokia As World's Biggest Mobile Supplier    [ 27-04-2012 14:30 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: BBC     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Research firm Strategy Analytics is reporting that Samsung has now overtaken Nokia to become the world's largest supplier of mobile phones. The first quarter of 2012 saw Nokia ship an impressive 83 million handsets worldwide, however, Samsung shipped an even more impressive 93 million handsets in the same period. Samsung reported their largest quarterly profit since 2008 based on those shipments, some £2.8 billion for the period ending 31st March. That's an 81% jump from the same period last year for those keeping count. The IT and communications divsion of Samsung alone saw its revenues increae by 86% year on year.

Nokia had been the world's largest mobile phone supplier since 1998, an eon in the mobile phone industry, when it had knocked the previous holder of the title, Motorola, off the top spot. Samsung has now done the same to Nokia. Whether Samsung can keep that momentum going is another matter of course, but given the mixed reception for Nokia's latest products and its support for Microsoft's relatively low key Windows Phone platform Samsung could very well retain its title.
