MWC2010. HTC

There wasn't much else to see that HTC's press conference in Barcelona other than the three new phones (Legend, Desire and HD Mini) and we've already previewed them. Though, to be completely honest, they did announce their plans to turn into one of the top 3 smartphone makers by 2013, which is an interesting claim, but completely meaningless in 2010 - we shall where they'll be in a year from now.

The new version of HTC Sense features several nice touches - a more detailed screen with contact's personal information and his activities, plus the new Sense's main attraction, new screen transition system.

I don't know how it's implemented on Windows Mobile phones yet, but on Android it works like this. What you are at the home screen, pressing the Home button calls the Screen menu allowing you to pick the one you need, which is pretty convenient, but there is one flaw to it. The phones that were featured at HTC's MWC booth made that window pop-up only when we pressed the button while staring at the Home screen. If we happened to be looking at Music, Weather or any other section of the phone, punching the Home key got us back to the Home Screen and that was it. I feel like this feature must work in any place around the UI, and I hope that it will.

HTC's first "dumb" phone, the Smart had already been showcased long before the MWC, but it did attract crowds of people at their booth nonetheless. I managed to get a closer look at its interface and here is what I found.

The only drawback the new Smart has is a somewhat grainy screen that does spoil the impression of its user interface. But the latter is pretty good - well-structured and very intuitive to use, with eye-candy graphics and visual effects. By the way, its UI speed was decent as well, and that's one of the most crucial parameters of a "dumb" phone, isn't it?

Conclusion

Even though HTC rolled out only one flagship device, the Android-based Desire, over the last three days its booth attracted almost as many people as Microsoft. Speaking of which, HTC already announced that they were working with MS on their new WP7-based device - it's still unknown whether it'll come with the Sense UI (probably not), but it'll definitely be their new WM-powered flagship - HTC HD3, anyone?
