Nokia at CeBIT 2005

For the year time Nokia prefers to represent its new devices before the main exhibition CeBIT to attract the maximum attention and later at the event allow visitors see the devices in reality. Sony Ericsson uses the same idea and that is curios the last announcements of both companies fell on the 1 of March.

The renewal of a successful Nokia 6230 was of the greatest interest, though it was known about long before. The new model got the "i" index and differs from the previous one in the presence of a megapixel camera, great memory capacity, improved screen (208x208 pixels). The screen size remained the same and that is to fit the body size, since no design changes were planned. The new screen shows icons and interface elements better and that is clear since the resolution is higher. But its small size still remains a weak point, rival devices were already equipped with larger screens. The main advantage of the 6230i is that it will be launched before its rivals like the 6230. The model will be available since the middle of April for 330-350 Euro or about 450 USD. The price difference with the 6230 is great since retail prices reached 300 USD for the last one. High price and non-optimal price/quality ratio will remain for about 4-5 months since no direct rivals will be launched at that time. The company's marketing has evaluated the market potential and the release of the rivals right and achieved the maximum margin and life period for their device.

In the end of May a more functional Sony Ericsson K750i will appear on the market, but the first price will be much higher and will be corrected only by September (the start price about 550 USD).

At the moment similar products by Sagem (X8, X6-2) cost less, but the brand takes such a small market share that no attention may be paid to it, since it can't compete with Nokia. Alcatel products will appear in the end of the summer but the brand is not a rival either. Siemens' products look interesting but they are positioned in a lower market segment and differ in worse characteristics. All above allows forecasting that from May to the end of September no alternative products may appear. Comparing with Samsung products seems incorrect due to the great difference in form-factors and positioning.

The company also showed such models as Nokia 6021 (a copy of 6020 without a camera but equipped with Bluetooth) and Nokia 6030 in the middle segment. The first model is expected for the price of 200 Euro (260 USD), and the second one will cost about 150 Euro. Only the body facture (plastic with the effect of leather) is of some interest, in all the rest these are typical representatives of the 40th platform with the minimum of characteristics.

The thing left to say is that the N-Gage room remained the same but was used for representing new models like Nokia 7710.

Also other new models and accessories could have been hold at the stand.
