Reportedly, after 10 years Nokia is almost ready to introduce its new technology Haptikos. It provides more tactile sensation when you touch the screen, not just vibration. Thus while you type you feel the same as when you work with ordinary buttons.
Roope Takala, Senior Program Manager at Nokia’s research labs, has demonstrated the technology on Nokia N770 Internet tablet. He explained that the technology is simple enough, they inserted two small piezo sensor pads under the screen and engineered in a 0.1-mm movement in the screen itself. It took time to fine tune the movement and response to mimic exactly the sensation of pressing a real key. The source said the new Nokia’s smartphones with S60 Touch interface will support Haptikos.

We’ve got our hands on new spy pics of Nokia N82 smartphone. These are more detailed pictures compared to those posted in October. The rumors on the N82 have long been roaming in the Internet, the announcement was expected on November 2, but didn’t take place.
The Symbian-Freak has posted the pictures and confirmed that the device comes with a 5-megapixel camera with auto focus, xenon flash and Carl Zeiss lens. Besides there is the support of 3G networks, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, an integrated GPS-receiver and USB-connector. The smartphone provides access to Nokia Music Store and N-Gage (Fifa 07 and Asphalt 3 games are available).
The source hints at a peculiar feature about the device – automatic shift of screen orientation (portrait or landscape). The function is available almost in all modes – in addition to browser in main menu and games. The Symbian-Freak mentions a very comfortable multimedia menu for a quick access to video, photo, music, games and so on.
Nokia N82 is rumored to be announced next week and offered for sale in January 2008. Time will show whether the info were true.
