Google Maps Update for Windows Mobile    [ 16-04-2009 22:02 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: phone Arena     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Good news for Windows Mobile users! Google Maps 3.0.1 is available for Windows Mobile (both standard and professional). Now for the bad news, features wise there’s nothing new, but there are bug fixes. The major work has apparently been in fixing bugs with Latitude.

Latitude will now update your location correctly when it’s running as a background app. However, in an apparent effort to save on battery life, when Latitude is running in background location update mode the location data will only be coming from cell towers, not through a Wi-Fi connection or GPS.

Nokia Sees 90% Drop in Q1 Profits    [ 16-04-2009 21:37 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Engadget     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Nokia today announced a whopping 90% drop in Q1 profits compare with Q1 2008. As steep a drop as that sounds Nokia did still post a respectable profit of €122 million. The fact that Nokia managed to make any profit at all at a time when many companies are going into the red served to bolster Nokia’s stock, which climbed 8% on the news. Just to delve into the figures a little deeper the loss represents a 27% decline in sales compared with the same quarter last year from €12.7 billion to €9.28 billion. Nokia’s market share is still industry leading at 37% and the fact that they didn’t see a loss in this quarter unlike some other manufacturers e.g. Sony Ericsson might be an indicator that they’re weathering the storm better than the rest.

Samsung Said to be Preparing to Launch Three Android Hnadsets in Europe    [ 16-04-2009 21:01 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: The Boy Genius Report     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Some news on the Android front, Samsung are apparently gearing up to release not one, not two, but three Android handsets in Europe this year. It’s unknown whether this clutch of handsets will include the rumoured S8000, but reports indicate that the first will be available in June.

Speculation, based upon Samsung’s penchant for full touchscreen handsets, is that an onscreen keyboard would be required should these handsets be full touchscreen efforts, which, given Samsung’s track record, seems plausible. Hence one can expect Samsung to be employing Android 1.5 in such models.
