Windows Phone Devs Getting Reports, Payouts Coming In January    [ 15-12-2010 19:57 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Windows Dev Blog     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Microsoft have been widely praised for taking a savvy perspective on apps for their new Windows Phone platform; paying devs to port apps over and generally treating apps as a cornerstone of the paltform.

However, that praise was muted somwhat when it became apparent that Microsoft was holding out on its devs when it came to actually paying them their royalties and also in giving them access to reports so that they could see how popular their apps are.

This is changing for the better though as Microsoft are now saying that devs have access to download reports, meaning devs can see how many people are actually showing an interest in what they're doing and enabling them to better plan new features and updates. Microsoft are also saying that payouts should commence in January, which is a month up from the previous estimate of February.

It's good to see Microsoft getting on top of this and again demonstrates that they know hwich side their bread is buttered on when it comes to devs, especially if they want to keep a hold of those devs.

Google, the intrepid explorers that they are, have beens ending Nexus S handsets into space using spacecraft made from beer coolers.

The idea is to send the phones up high to see what sort of data can be gleaned from a smartphones sensors. The idea is certainly fun, but there is a serious side to it as well; Google are hoping to use some the information obtained to build better satellites.

Check out the action in the video below:

All Things D posted up the Mike Lazaridis interview the other day and now they have the full Andy Rubin interview up and running too. Apart from being a damned sight more coherent than the Lazaridis video it's also just good old fashioned interesting. Enjoy!
