Class Action Lawsuit Being Prepared Over iPhone 4 Problems    [ 29-06-2010 18:53 ]

Author: Ivanov Konstantin   Source: Gizmodo     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

The big story ove rin iPhone-land is of course the antenna problem that many customers are experiencing, but which Steve Jobs is saying doesn't exist, and which Nokia has been using to get some laughs. What's not to laugh at though is a class action lawsuit being prepared by the same Californian law firm that sued Facebook and Zynga over scam game ads. The firm is looking to contact people who recently purchased the iPhone 4 and have been affected by the antenna issue that causes the signal to drop. For their part Apple have vacillated between recognising the problem and suggesting users hold the phone differently to sayiing that there is no problem, but hinting at some sort of development in the issue. The law firm, Kershaw, Cutter & Ratinoff, have posted the investigation on their website saying "If you recently purchased the new iPhone and have experienced poor reception quality, dropped calls and weak signals, we would like to hear from you". Of course othe rmobiles have suffered for reception problems in the past and in that regard the iPhone is no different so it's a valid question to ask why a lawsuit now? One possible answer to that would be the number of complaints the iPhone 4 issue has generated along with the amount of controversy that is now associated with it.

In another development in the ongoing saga a new video has been released on the web showing the effect the antenna problem can have on data usage. Up until now the focus has been on the signal bars dropping and even some dropped calls, but in the video below you can see quite clearly how touching the affected are aof the iPhone 4's antenna halts the data flow.

Desire, Wildfire & Legend Getting Froyo Next Month    [ 29-06-2010 18:39 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Engadget     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

We've all had a chance to gawp at Froyo since it was officially unveiled at Google's I/O event and gawp we have. Vastly improved performance, app storage on extrnal memory and of course Flash support to name but a few of the latest Android iteration's features have been getting a lot of people excited. What hasn't been getting people excited though is having to wait for Froyo to come to their device of choice. Nexus One owners have been the lucky few to receive the update so far, but HTC looks to be ushering in Froyo to some of its own brand handsets in the not too distant future. HTC are saying that 'several' (their word) of their 2010 handsets will be recieving the 2.2 update at the 'beginning of Q3". The specifically mentioned the Desire, Legend and Wildfire as being amongst those to get the update and the beginning of Q3 is next month so Froyo could be headed your way in as little as a week if you own one of those handsets. Maybe that's being optimistic, but if not next week then it shouldn't be too much later than that to still fit within the specified time-frame.

Video: Super Mario Live Wallpaper for Android    [ 29-06-2010 18:29 ]

Author: Ivanov Konstantin   Source: Pocket-lint     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Live wallpapers are a pretty nice feature on Android, especially when devs make good use of it and release something as insanely aweome as this Super Mario Bros. live wallpaper! It does absolutely nothing other than make your Android device look uber ... well that and eat up your battery, but that's a fair trade off we think you'll agree. Of course to make use of this live wallpaper, or any live wallpaper for that matter, you're going to be needing Android 2.1. For those wondering, no you can't actually control the game, it's run by AI with randomly generated levels so it's like a video of Mario being played rather than a game you can interact with. Of course interaction might be an idea for this, well we can hope anyway. If you want to try it for yourself you can download the live wallpaper here.

Video: New Nokia QWERTY Smartphone ... Not the N9    [ 29-06-2010 18:27 ]

Author: Irina Turina     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

There is a video doing the rounds today showing off an as yet unreleased Nokia handset and most commentators are running with the story that the handset in question is the N9. The handset shown in the video (see below) has a slide out QWERTY keyboard and it looks to be running Symbian. That last part is interesting because Nokia have already stated that their high-end smartphones won't be graced with Symbian anymore, rather they're switching to MeeGo so whether Symbian makes it into the final cut or not remains to be seen. However, there is another point to consider, despute what many think this isn't going to be an N series device i.e. it's not the N9, rather it may very well be a modified version of the C7 according to Eldar. In that case it might very well end up with Symbian after all. The handset in the video also features an 8 MP camera, which many are saying may be ramped up to a 12 MP effort because they think this is the N9. Given that it isn't the N9 the camera module will most likely remain at 8 MP.
