Cancer Ads Will Have You Playing With Your Balls    [ 06-04-2012 16:55 ]

I'm not a fan of most 'clever' ad campaigns as basically most aren't actually all that clever, but this is a pure gem of brilliance from Peru. In an effort to encourage men to check themselves for testicular cancer the Y&R Peru agency came up with this pretty slick campaign that sees tongue in cheek slogans and digital devices palstered across the front of men's underwear. Take a look at some of them in the images below and remember to check yourself lads!

Old Android Malware Takes On New Life To Remotely Root Handsets    [ 06-04-2012 15:16 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Threatpost     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

An existing piece of Android malware has taken on a new level of threat according to Lookout Mobile Security in that it can now take on remote root permissions without user interaction. The app is called 'Legacy Native' (LeNa) and it uses an exploit known as GingerBreak to access the root permissions on Android devices. This new version of the app is hidden past the marker for end of image in a normal JPEG file. The app can then start communicating with a remote server to receive commands and install more packages without the user knowing a thing. The malware is being bandied around through a fake version of Angry Birds Space so watch out what you're downloading!

Galaxy Nexus Signal Loss After Android 4.0.4 Update    [ 06-04-2012 11:37 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: XDA-Developers via Engadget     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

The recent Android 4.0.4 update for the Galaxy Nexus (GSM version) was supposed to bring things like bug fixes to the handset, however, it has apparently done the complete opposite. Many a post over on XDA-Developers has seen users bemoan the update as having wreaked havoc with their handset's ability to hold a signal. The problem is also noted in a listing on Google's very own support pages. The problem itself is pretty simple; users can't make or receive calls or text messages. The cause? Well apparently it is related to the handset going into sleep mode. A workaround has been developed for the moment that involves ... well basically not allowing the handset to enter sleep mode. Obviously that's not very practical in terms of battery power so hopefully Google themselves get a better fix out to users soon.

Nexus Tablet Pushed Back To July    [ 06-04-2012 11:07 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: The Verge     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Google's rumoured Nexus branded tablet, being developed alongside ASUS so say the interwebz, has reportedly had its launch date moved back to July. That's the news from unnamed sources speaking to The Verge and it means that the alleged unveiling at Google's annual I/O event on 27th June will probably not go ahead. The delay is supposedly the result of Google's desire to tweak it a bit more, but more than that Google may be looking to send it out the door with Jelly Bean, the next iteration of Android after Ice Crean Sandwich.

The tablet itself is said to be a 7-inch job with a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 chip and all the other usual bells and whistles. The price, more than the specs, has been the area of most interest though as it will seemingly be going on sale for $249. However, there is chatter to the effect that Google are looking to see that number come down, way down in fact, to as little as $149. That would no doubt help the device compete in the sea of tablets that are currently available, not to mention the aggressive pricing Amazon has set with its products.
