Review LG G7000A

LG W7000, live pictures

Standard kit:

  • Phone
  • Charger
  • User's giude
  • Strip
  • Portable handsfree
  • Cable for synchronization with PC
  • CD with software

G7000A fills a gap in the phone line from LG, because until recently the company doesn’t have a phone with GPRS support. Index of the model shows that the design of the phone is similar to LG W7000. These phones really have the same dimensions, weight and other features, even the same colors (silver, blue and red). We think that it’s not necessary to describe new phone’s functionality; you can read about it in the review LG W7000. In the contrast to this model G7000A has a STN screen, which can support up to 65000 colors. Comparison of this screen with similar screens of other manufacturers shows that the screen in the new model is less bright and contrast than other ones.

So, the main enhancement of this phone is GPRS support (GPRS class10). It means that up to 4 slots to receive data and 2 slots to send them are used in this phone. In reality, number of slots doesn’t play great role, in majority of cases even one slot is quite enough. Nevertheless, the extra phone capability is a virtue of the handset.

All GPRS settings are placed in the menu “Settings”. It is possible to use a phone mode here (only GSM, only GPRS and mixed one). A possibility to switch off GPRS feature can be used in networks, which do not support this service. In this case power consumption will be minimal because there won’t be network requests. You can also switch it off, if you are not going to use this feature. It’s interesting that an operating time of this phone wasn’t reduced greatly, although we didn’t switch off GPRS. The phone worked about 3 days in case of 40 minutes of talking. We think that W7000 has better software than W7020; that is why the phone works longer.

An indicator of GPRS (letter G) is displayed on both screens (external and internal). If you use WAP over GPRS, the other indicator is appeared. As for me, viewing of wap-resources via GPRS is a rather slow process in this handset. You can also transmit data to PC via a cable. It’s a conventional function.

Now some words about one more peculiarity of the phone, more precisely about standard delivery kit. Apart from a strip to wear a phone and a portable handsfree, it includes a CD with software to download melodies and cable for synchronization. Unfortunately, cable can be connected only to COM-port; USB version is absent now. But all applications are also compatible with IrDA port.

Let’s overview available applications. First one is PC Sync. This program enables to synchronize data of the phonebook, organizer and reminders. Also there is a possibility to read text messages from Microsoft Outlook. Everything is simple.

Besides, there is an utility, which allows to work with SMS messages. You can create and read a message and also play back melodies in iMelody format. This program is really nice.

The second application is named Internet Kit, it could help to connect your PC to Internet via phone. The most interesting program is Contents Bank. It enables to download up to 10 melodies to the phone. A good set of melodies, mostly classical ones, can be found on the same CD. It is indicated that all melodies are 16-tones polyphonic, not 40-tones. Comparative analyses of pre-default melodies and melodies from CD showed that all of them sounded equally. It means, that in spite of that a phone supports 40-tones polyphony, it is not used in reality.

Today LG G7000A costs about 380 USD. If you have a desire to buy a phone from LG, this phone will be a good choice. Now it is the best phone from this manufacturer, it has richest features and delivery kit. An experience with LG W7000 showed that phones of blue and red colors were quickly scratched and had unstable covering. So, we recommend you to purchase a phone of silver color. Generally speaking, production quality from LG is improved with every new phone. Let’s wait for LG G8000, it is promised to be a very interesting handset.
