More New Nokia Handsets Revealed    [ 28-06-2011 17:03 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: My Nokia Blog     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

With the leaked shots of the N5 appearing yesterday there was also talk of more Symbian handsets making an appearance. We've been psoting some details of the handsets up on our Facebook page and Twitter stream, but here's a nice centralised overview for you.

There are four handsets to mention here; the 500, the 600, the 700 and the 701. The 701, with the codename Helen, is the high-end of the group with a 1 GHz processor, the latest Belle version of Symbian and a 8 MP camera. The screen weighs in at 3.5 inches and the handset is reportedly the successor to the C7. The price of the handset should be somewhere around the 300 euro mark.

The 700, with the codename Zeta, is also running with a 1 GHz processor and Belle and is being described as 'the thinnest smartphone ever' and will measure in at 8.8mm. The screen should be a 3.2 inch AMOLED job. In terms ofpricing you will probably be looking at somewhere around the 290 euro mark.

Cindy, the 600, sports a 1 Ghz processor again, a 5 MP camera, NCF support and a 3.2 inch AMOLED screen. Presumably this will be a more mid-tier option as the pricing is said to be 'attractive'. Pricing should be in the range of 260 euros.

The 500 Fate is the runt of the litter so to speak, being the budget model. It does still have a 1 Ghz chip and a 5 MP camera though. The handset will reportedly sell for less than 200 euros so a bit of a bargain there!

You should expect to see these handsets appear sometime in Q3 so that would be Sepetember at the earliest. prices mentioned here can of course change too. Hopefully some pictures and videos appear soon!

Cheaper iPhone Rumour Given Credence By Deutsche Bank    [ 28-06-2011 16:49 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: Unwired View     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Deutsche Bank director Chris Whitmore has been making some comments about a possible cheaper iPhone that seem to have sparked rumours that Apple might be about to launch just such a handset alongside the next generation iPhone later this year. The actual comment was "... the time is right for Apple to launch a cheaper iPhone alongside a new high-end model".

It's basically just an opinion with no actual facts behind it to suggest that a cheaper model will surface later this year. The comments, coming as they do from a respected institution, lend weight to rumours of a cheaper iPhone though. Of course such rumours have been around for a while now and the comment certainly holds a lot of water when you put it into the context of Android now seeing more than half a million activations every day. A cheaper iPhone model would allow Apple to gain some traction in the mid-tier market and more effectively compete with Google. Of course Apple have shown no sign of doing this, instead relying on cutting the cost of previous models to attract such customers.

Chinese Girl Offers To Sell Virginity For iPhone 4    [ 28-06-2011 16:42 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: Korea Herald via BGR     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

To say that Apple have a strong hold on the popular psyche and demand for cosnumer electronics would be an understatement, but the situation seems to be getting out of hand in China. Only recently we reported that a Chinese teenager had sold one of his kidneys to purchase an iPad. Selling your organs for a tablet is quite frankly ridiculous and the insane lengths some people are willing to go to to obtain an Apple product doesn't seem to be abating as a report emerged today of another Chinese teenager, a girl this time, offering to sell her virginity in exchange for an iPhone 4.

The girl posted a message on Chinese microblogging site Weibo offering to have sex in exchange for the handset after her father refused to buy the device for her. Some posters replied telling her she shouldn't do it whilst others made a joke of it saying that the iPhone 5 would soon be coming out. Hopefully she heeds the advice of the former posters and doesn't go through with it.

Andy Rubin: Android Has >500k Activations/Day    [ 28-06-2011 16:09 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: via Engadget     Translation by:    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Android's growth continues unabated with the latest figure from Andy Rubin once again showing that Android is marching ahead regardless of what any of the other platforms are doing. Rubin tweeted earlier today that Android is now seeing a whopping 500,000 activations per day and that even that figure is growing at 4.4% week on week.

Let's gain some perspective here though and rmeind ourselves that it was only in December that Android claimed to have passed the 300,000 activatiosn per day mark. Seven months later and that figure has grown by 60%. In short Android shows absolutely no sign whatsoever of slowing its pace, if anything it's getting faster.
