An interesting little piece from Reuters reveals that data consumption across the globe is doubling every two years. The world's annual data consumption amounts to enough to fill 57.5 billion 32 GB iPads! That's enough iPads to build the Great Wall of China at double its present height!

Samsung Trying To Stop iPhone/iPad Shipments To America    [ 29-06-2011 18:09 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: TechRadar     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

The lawsuit between Apple and Samsung has taken a rather nasty turn as Samsung have filed for an injunction against iPhone and iPad imports to the United States. It's a fairly bold move and part of the wider battle between the two over patent infringement.

For their part Apple have previously secured access to unreleased Samsung products as part of the legal dispute, whilst Samsung failed in an attempt to gain access to the next generation iPhone. Apple have also been busy filing a lawsuit in South Korea and there's tongues wagging that Apple are looking to wean themselves off Samsung components for their products and as such are looking for alternative suppliers.

Samsung's bid to restrict Apple device imports to America won't be decided overnight of course. The International Trade Commission will have to investigate the complaint and any decision is likely to take months if not longer to come about.

Nokia 700 Zeta Pics Leak    [ 29-06-2011 17:10 ]

Author: Ivanov Konstantin   Source: GSMArena     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

It's been quite the week for Nokia so far and following up on the various new Symbian handsets detailed yesterday today we have some pictures of Zeta. Zeta, as you may remember, is the Nokia 700 and looks to be running Symbian Belle. Other specs include a 1 Ghz processor; 3.2 inch nHD AMOLED display and the self proclaimed title of being the world's 'thinnest smartphone' although the jury still seems to be out on that one. Anyhoo, enjoy the picture!

Tango & Apollo ... The Updates After Mango    [ 29-06-2011 16:55 ]

Author: Ivanov Konstantin   Source: DigiTimes     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Windows Phone is picking up a bit of speed now that it's out of the starting gate and once the initial concern over sales figures was out of the way the big topic was (and is) the Mango update. As we all know it's scheduled to hit some time in the autumn and Nokia will be releasing their first Windows Phone handset with Mango onboard. All very well and good, but DigiTimes have come out with a couple of interesting product names for what comes next.

Those names are Tango and Apollo. Tango looks to be the next update for Windows Phone after Mango, but it's Apollo that is looking like the really interesting update. The reason for that is because it's being touted as not just an update, but as Windows Phone 8 i.e. the next generation of the platform. Further speculation has it that it will arrive along with Windows 8, Microsoft's next incarnation of their desktop operating system.

Obviously all of this, including Tango, are a long way off; Mango isn't even out yet. However, whilst we don't have specs or features for Tango or Apollo we at least know there names now ... that's important right?
