Google Leads Tech In Popularity    [ 11-04-2012 14:50 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: Langer Research     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

An interesting poll from ABC and The Washington post highlighting Americans' tech preferences in the form of brand favourability. The headline here is Google's position as leader of the pack; a very impressive 82% of those polled had a favourable outlook towards Google. Let that sink in for a moment, it's the sort of poll figures a politician would kill for. Just 9% of those asked said they didn't like Google with 10% undecided. Apple wasn't too far behind it has to be said with a favourable rating of 74%, and despite what we may see on the internet just 13% viewed Apple unfavourably.

Now the interesting part comes when we get to Facebook and Twitter. Facebook only managed to scrape together a 58% favourable score, barely over half really, whilst Twitter couldn't even do that with just 34%. Facebook's unfavourable rating was a pretty hefty 28% whilst Twitter notched up a 36% unfavourable rating. That means Twitter was disliked by more people than those who said they liked it. So why the lack of love for Facebook and Twitter? Unfortunately the poll didn't go into the reasons behind the figures so we are simply left to guess I'm afraid.

Video: NFC Enabled Lumia 610 Accidentally Outed But Now Official    [ 11-04-2012 13:28 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Thegadgetbuff     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Prior to official confirmation of an NFC enabled Lumia 610 a video of the new beast appeared on YouTube. The video was taken down rather quickly of course, but the handset is all nice and official now anyway. It will be getting its groove on the Orange network. Check the video below, which shows off the handset of course, but also features an interview with Lead Program Manager, NFC, Andrea Bacioccola. The Lumia 610 should now be the first NFC enabled handset to bring this technology to the masses of Europe in any serious way.

U.S. Government Sues Apple    [ 11-04-2012 13:19 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Bloomberg     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Remember those rumours that were doing the rounds that Apple was coming in for some heat from the U.S. government over alleged ebook price fixing? No? Well there were rumours that Apple was coming for some heat from the U.S. government over alleged ebook price fixing. Now that that's out of the way ... it looks like the U.S. goverment is now suing Apple along with other over what it claims to be a conspiracy to set the price of ebooks. A lawsuit has been filed by the government against Apple, Hachette Book Group, HarperCollins, Macmillan and Penguin. The lawsuit alledges that these companies colluded to set the prices for electronic books. The lawsuit was filed on Wednesday by the Department of Justice. Not that a lawsuit is anything new to Apple; one more to add to their pile of Samsung and Android suits.
