Google Puts A Little Sunshine Into Weather Results    [ 25-01-2011 18:21 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Pocket-lint     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Google have been tinkering with their mobile search results again (for Android & iPhone) so that when you search for 'weather' you get something new.

That something new is a rather fetching looking interactive forecast that is automatically centred on your current location. You can of course change the location to somewhere else. The forecast covers the next 12 hours and it's broken down hour by hour. There's also a longer range forecast covering up to four days ahead.

The Google Blog explained the change "We'd been wanting to build a fun, useful, app-like way to display weather information on our weather search results page in the mobile browser ... So we pulled together a user experience designer and team of engineers and built a new weather search results snippet that lets you actually play with the results".

White Google Nexus S Appears    [ 25-01-2011 17:44 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: UnwiredView     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

It looks like the Nexus S is getting a bit of a revamp ... well the back of it is anyway. A new white version of the handset has been spotted although it is just the back cover that is white.

There's no dates for release yet, but with MWC just around the corner it wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility to see it launched then. Even if it isn't actually launched then it's still a bit of poke in the eye to Apple who have been promising a white version of the iPhone 4 for months no, and which is apparently so fiendishly complicated to build that it still hasn't seen the light of day.

Sony Ericsson Windows Phone 7 Device This Year?    [ 25-01-2011 17:39 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: DigiTimes     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

In a recent interview with Pocket-lint Sony Ericsson said that they were keeping an open mind when it came to Windows Phone 7. In other words they had no immediate plans to release a Windows Phone 7 handset, but wouldn't be against the idea at some point down the line.

Well DigiTimes is running with the rumour that Sony Ericsson do in fact have a Windows Phone 7 handset for some time this year. It is just a rumour at this stage so treat it with skepticism. It would be interesting to see Sony Ericsson's take on Windows Phone 7 if it proved true. Looking at their Android efforts they seem to like to go beyond the vanilla and add their own touch, not something Microsoft has been allowing with its platform so far.
