Review GSM-phone Siemens SX1. Synchronization with PC, Siemens SX1 Data Suite

Review Siemens SX1. Summary>>

Synchronization software is shipped in each package. At first it seems that the install process goes nicely, without any troubles. The problems were encountered by small number of users. That’s where magic rituals made for curing the problem of connecting your phone to PC via cable being. Siemens Support does not give adequate answer for solving this problem; they have a certain action sequence developed that solves a typical problem, nothing more. In my case I was unable to get the Data Suite working on my notebook, mRouter simply wasn’t looking for the device. Although all divers were installed perfectly and it was seen as modem. Wireless connection with notebook ran flawlessly as well. The first suspense fell for analogue software from Nokia, I believed that it uses the same resources and doesn’t allow Data Suite working normally. I had to delete all Nokia’s software and clean the registry and folders on my notebook, but the result wasn’t achieved. My OS is Windows XP Professional.

At the same time no problems with my Desktop PC that has the same OS and installed Nokia’s software were encountered. The program got installed automatically, and mRouter found my mobile after the reboot.

Software’s appearance is presented with a set of icons that are responsible for various applications. You can see the phone’s SMS on your PC, create your own. Backup data copying and its synchronization are supported as well. You can install new software too. GPRS Assistant is present (this function works even slower, than the overall software’s performance). At first the Data Suite seems to be technologically filled, but after some time you realize that everything is not that easy. For example when you are synchronizing pictures and photos from your device to PC, you can define the folder to which the files will be stored, but you can’t choose the picture folder on your device. The phone synchronizes data located in the “Image” folder’s root, folders are not counted in. You are forced to move the pictures to /root manually, and this is not convenient.

There is big editor called Siemens PhotoSuite – some people will like it.

The overall impression from using the software doesn’t isn’t very nice. The software is unstable and isn’t bug-free, there are small and big roughness. Siemens knows that and is working on the new Data Suite release.

We advice using the standard kit for file download and Upload. When we tried to view the phone’s memory directly and attempted to copy files whose size was more than 150kb the OS went unstable, sometimes the info window got closed on its own.

Impressions, conclusion

The network quality is nice and doesn’t meet any blame. Everything works the way it should The vibrating alert’s power can be rated as average, polyphonic ring tone’s volume is enough in most cases. If we review the functional features of this phone, we have to point out the presence of built-in radio and nicely made mp3 player that features nice interface realization. The icons look good as well. But that’s about it, other parameters can’t fight their competitors, we can recall slow application launch speed, weak graphical sub-system, unstable software for PC, badly presented text input, constructive shortcomings (pressing the display with keys).

We do not want to compare Siemens SX1 with its competitors here; this will be made in a separate material that will be released in the nearest future.

For now we can say that this phone is nicely targeted on its segment (youth, and not the businessmen), this will provide stable, but not really tremendous sales. This will be a good choice for those who are looking for a device that can play mp3 files. But you have to keep in mind that at least two phones (not smartphones) will be released with the same function support and exchangeable memory cards.

By concluding my story I’d like to mention that the price/quality ratio for Siemens SX1 is strongly overrated. Before buying this phone remember that you will have to buy an additional MMC card too, otherwise working with a smartphone will not be a valuable process. The dynamics of price decreasing shows that Siemens isn’t planning to make this model massively used.
