Apple's App Store Clocks Its 15 Billionth Download    [ 07-07-2011 14:52 ]

Author: Ivanov Konstantin   Source: IntoMobile     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Only recently the Windows Phone Marketplace passed the 25,000 app mark and of course Android's own app store is growing steadily too. However, for all that has been said about those two they still can't compete (yet) with Apple's app store when it comes to sheer popularity. Apple's App Store has now clocked up its 15 billionth download.

It was just 6 months ago that Apple announced that the App Store had notched its 10 billionth download. The lucky downloader who downloaded the 10 billionth app was given $10,000 to celebrate. Those 15 billion ownloads were aided no doubt by a lot of high quality apps on offer. Sure there are scores of dross e.g.fart apps, etc, but there are also some real gems in there too. At this rate it shouldn't be all that long before Apple delebrate the 20 billionth.

iPhone 6 Will Feature New Charging Method?    [ 07-07-2011 11:21 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: WSJ     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Rumours of the iPhone 5 abound ahead of its expected late autumn launch, but the Wall Street Journal is already fanning the flames of the iPhone 6 rumour mill. The paper mentioned that the iPhone 6 is apparently being worked on with a view to a release window in 2012 and , the paper claimed, features a "... new way of charging the phone ...".

Annoyingly there were no actual details of what the new charging method would be although the prime candidate would of course be something similar to that seen with HP's Pre devices. Mind you that isn't technically new although I suppose it is for the iPhone. Some of the wilder theories put forward include wireless charging at a distance although given the current state of the technology I think it's pretty safe to dismiss such rumours.

Nokia Commits To Supporting N9    [ 07-07-2011 11:09 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Twitter via Engadget     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

With all the Windows Phone love pouring out of Nokia these days it has arguably become common to think of MeeGo as a dead platform walking. How much support will it receive when Nokia is championing Windows Phone? Well quite a bit apparently, at least as far as the N9 goes.

In a tweet Nokia's head of portfolio management, Klas Ström, made it clear that the N9 would be supported by Nokia 'for years'. He went on to say that there would be 'several software updates'. Interestingly the tweet was marked with the hashtag '#nottoworry' indicating an understanding that many potential customers may be worried they are buying something of a lame duck with the N9.
