Samsung Ironically Supplying iPad Displays Exclusively    [ 13-03-2012 19:59 ]

Author: Ivanov Konstantin   Source: Bloomberg     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Apple might be trying to sue the crap out of Apple (and vice versa), but it seems that the two companies won't let a small thing like a heated global legal battle get in the way of good business. Reportedly Apple is using Samsung to supply the displays for its most recently announced member of the iPad family. LG and Sharp were said to be supplying displays, but seemingly they simply weren't up to the task with their displays not meeting Apple's standards. Enter Samsung, which will apparently be the exclusive display supplier to Apple at the launch of the new iPad. LG and Sharp are said to have run into problems with compromised power consumption as  analyst Vinita Jakhanwal of IHS iSuppli explained:

The display specifications of the new iPad are very demanding in terms of the very high resolution. Achieving this high resolution without compromising on the power consumption and brightness and maintaining Apple's quality standards are supposedly proving to be a challenge for LG Display and Sharp.

Apple Worth Almost As Much As Entire U.S. Retail Market    [ 13-03-2012 19:23 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: Zero Hedge     Translation by:    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Ever since Steve Jobs returned to Apple in 1997 the company has been on the upswing. Even Jobs' death late last year hasn't dampened Apple's incredible growth and recently Apple passed the $500 billion market capitalization barrier. Much has been made of that figure, but as Apple now stands at a market cap of $558 billion it puts the company 'just' $14 billion away from being worth more than the entirety of the United States retail sector. Yes, Apple is worth almost as much as all of the merchants, stores, vendors and other goods hawkers in the U.S. combined.
