Without making a big fuss Motorola prepared new models, which could be launched
on the European market in the near future. First, let's talk about the models
which features are clear and the design of which won't be changed considerably.
Continuation of the T series will be Motorola T190, soon we'll see it in shops.
It is analogues to the T191, the same form and the same features. The phone dimensions
are 106x40x16 mm, the weight is 99g. The phone has a Ni-MH battery of 550 mAh
capacity. As you see these parameters are also similar.
A dual band phone C336 (GSM900/1800), a continuation of C30x series, is very
interesting. It has not usual display type, which can show 4-level grayscale and
has a white reflective backlighting. The other features are ordinary: the resolution
of 96x64 pixels, a possibility to set wallpapers and screensavers. Notable that
16-channels polyphony is appeared here (128 instruments). There are 35 pre-default
ringing tones, if it is not enough, you can download 32 more melodies or compose
your own ones, including polyphonic ringing tones. The handset supports GPRS (4+1).
If you are going to use the phone as a modem, a standard kit contains a USB cable
for PC. This cable can be used only for data transmission, synchronization with
PC isn't supported. If to say about messages, the phone doesn't have MMS support,
only EMS (version 5). It is the first model with Peer-to-Peer Chat support. It's
a little bit disappointing that this intriguing feature is just SMS Chat, which
allows to communicate with a group of callers. Among other functions we can name
voice dialing for up to 25 phone numbers, wap 1.2.1, calculator, currency converter,
3 new games with upgradeable game levels. C336 has a lithium-ion battery of 600
mAh capacity, which can provide 190-250 hours of standby time and 2-4 hours of
the talk time.
Apart from C336 Motorola plans to launch C370 in the first quarter of 2003.
It is also a dual band phone, but it belongs to another class group. It is more
advanced, though the dimensions (101x42x19) and the weight (80g) are quite the
same. This phone has a colour display, which can show up to 4096 colours with
the resolution of 96x65 pixels. The screen is made by STN technology. So, it is
not as good as Samsung T100 has, but it shows the similar number of colours. However,
the display is better than a screen of SonyEricsson T300. C370 has the same functions
as C336, moreover it supports Java (J2ME MIDP 1.0) and wap 2.0 (downloading of
pictures, screensavers and etc.) A 16 channels polyphonic calling alert becomes
louder if to compare to C336. A USB cable is possible to use not only for data
transmission but for the synchronization as well.
But it is not the end of surprises from Motorola. 2003 is a year of colour
displays. E360R (many sites in Net called it C360R) also has a colour display.
The matrix is made by STN technology too, the display also shows up to 4096 colours
but has the resolution of 128x96 pixels. A phone has a lithium-ion battery of
600 mAh capacity, which works up to 150 hours in the standby mode and up to 150
minutes in the talk mode. A peculiarity of the phone is interchangeable front
colours, keypads and battery doors. There are 5 pre-installed games (Smack, Magic,
Memory, Torpedo, Racing) and internet games (extra games) in the phone. WAP-browser
is only in 1.2.1 version but WAP Push is supported, what make the life easier.
Profiles, a possibility to download additional icons and a full organizer are
appeared here. The handset has a voice dialing and voice commands (10+10), it
supports SMS Group. Several fields can be added to one name in the phonebook.
The memory space for screensavers and wallpapers is extended. In other words it's
a funky model, and what is the most essential thing to do is to wait until it
launches.
Already produced models were not set aside too. Motorola V70 will be renewed
to Motorola V70i. There are rumors in Net that this model will have a colour display.
But we have the contrary information. According to our sources only a shell will
changed and a few new features in software appear, no more. It is expected that
the renewable model will be launched in the 1. quarter of 2003.
T 720 also will be renewed too, but the phone will get a new index - Motorola
T725. It is rumored that the main difference of this models will be in an integrated
digital camera.
Of course, it's too early to say about next models, v300 and v600 are only
elaborating now. It is presumed that both models will support all GSM bands (850/1900,
900/1800), have a polyphony and GPRS. They will have a plug-in digital camera
as an accessory. V300 will be equipped by a colour display (STN, 4096, 128x128)
and it will support EMS, MMS, WAP, Java, i-Melody, MIDI, PIM. The phone will measure
80 x 22 x 45 mm and weighs 88 g.
V600 is a top-model. Hence, its screen shows up to 65000 colours and the resolution
of 120x160 pixels. Furthermore, it supports bluetooth. The advantages are dynamical
memory, the user has 2-3Mb of free memory space. V600 is expected in the end of
the 3. quarter 2003.
And now let me say some words about smartphones. In the end of the next year
a new Smartphone under OC Symbian will appear - Paragon II. It is tri-band phone
(900/1800/1900), it also supports WCDMA2100. The handset has touchscreen , which
can show up to 65000 colours with the resolution of 208x320 pixels. The dimensions
are 125x60xx24 mm, the weight - 170g. This Smartphone should be a contender to
SonyEricsson P800 and Nokia
7650. The new phone is closer to P800 if to compare the phones in specifications.
Paragon II will have an integrated camera, bluetooth, mail client and slot for
MMC cards. A peculiarity of this Smartphone and the main differences from the
rivals is a real built-in sound card, which supports 3D sound. According to the
most optimistic estimation this model will be launched in April or May 2003.
Another interesting elaboration is A835. It resembles Paragon II in functions,
but the main strong point of it is videoconferences. As A835 is only working out
now, it might have a different design, for example this or those. Nobody knows
which one will be the basis.
The same is concerned the other models. Very often a manufacturer changes the
technical specifications and the design almost while running. C336, C370, E360
and T190 definitely won't have such changers, but I have doubts about V300, V600
and A835.
