The state of Arizona in the United States has passed a bill that would effectively outlaw internet trolling. Officially it's designed to stop cyberbuling by extending provisions already in place to counter telephone harassment to the internet and other electronic communication methods. It sounds good in practice, but obviously there are various areas that will almost certainly pose problems and come in for criticism. For example, some are already saying that it is so vague in its wording that it could be applied to just about anything and see people come in for prosecution over posts on message boards like Reddit. Even so the legislation is awaiting a signature from the governor, after which it will become law. If it is signed into law anyone prosecuted under it will face a Class 1 misdemeanor, which means they could face a $2,500 fine and/or 6 months in prison.

Another round of figures from ComScore related to the American market have just been released. Samsung is the top manufacturer Stateside with a 25.6% share of the market followed by LG on 19.4%, Apple comes third with 13.5% and Motorola is in fourth with 12.8%. Now that's all very well and good, but of more interest in these figures is the fact that within the last month an extra 4 million Americans have become smartphone users for a total of 104 million people. That's a pretty impressive jump for just one month and cements the view that the modern mobile market is relentlessly marching towards the smartphone.
Speaking of smartphone Android was standing at 46.9% of the American market back in November of last year. That figures has now increased to 50.1%, giving Google just over half the smartphone market in America. Apple shouldn't be too disappointed by this turn of events though as their own share increased from 28.7% to a still very respectable 30.2%. Where are these rises coming from? Well, in short, RIM and Microsoft. Both of those companies saw their own market hare declining by 2-3%. Microsoft might be able to see a reversal in its fortunes thanks to Nokia, but RIM faces a rather more bleak future.
