Google Makes More Money From The iPhone Than Android    [ 29-03-2012 21:03 ]

Google's forthcoming legal wrangle with Oracle has brought to light documents that show Google earned less than $550 million from its Android platform between 2008 and 2011. Why is this significant? Well in the ame timeframe Google generated more than four times that figure from its dealings with the iPhone, iPod Touch and the iPad. Larry Page, Google's CEO, revealed during an earnings call last year that Google was "... seeing a huge positive revenue impact from mobile, which has grown 2.5 times in the last 12 months to a run rate of over $2.5 billion". Going by that figure it would seem as if a fairly large chunk of Google's revenue from mobile comes from sources other than Android. Google's deal with Apple to use Google Maps and search on iOS devices, first struck back in 2007, would certainly seem to be contributing a significant proportion of that $2.5 billion and makes it all the more interesting when Apple tinkers around with those options, such as when they added Bing as a search option on the iPhone.

An Apple Product In Half Of All American Homes    [ 29-03-2012 20:53 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: CNBC     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

A CNBC poll reveals that half of all househods in America now own at least one Apple device. Apple's fortunes have literally been on the up and up over the past few years with the company now ranked as the most valuable in the world and its share price having recently surpassed the $500 mark. That's all very well and good, but a more tangible result of that success would definitely be an Apple device in half the homes of the U.S.

The average American household owns 1.6 Apple devices according to the survey with a quarter of those households planning on purchasing another Apple device sometime within the next year. Of those households that don't currently own an Apple device a full 10% said they were planning to do so. Those doing the buying are predominantly men with a university education and tend to be young. The survey also revealed, rather obviously one might say, that those with higher earnings tended to own more Apple devices. One last figure that is a bit more interesting though is that 61% of households with children owned an Apple device, the figure for households without children was a bit behind at 48%, which would seem to indicate that the educational drive from Apple for its products is taking hold in the popular mindset.
